Fall Athletics

Well people, Summer is coming to a close, school is starting back up, and Fall sports are now in session. It is nice to see the young folk starting to trickle back in. It still remains a mystery to me that more parents haven’t caught on to how beneficial it is for young athletes to learn proper technique and develop their physical strength and flexibility during the off season. Good luck everyone!

Not Open Monday the 3rd! Also a Mini Update….

Since it is Labor day this week we will not be open this coming up Monday September 3rd!

I know we havent made any posts for awhile but to be honest there hasnt been much to post since the Bad Mother Open! All the Calpians are either nursing injuries are just starting new training programs and working up to new goals for either the October 13th meet or pushing thru that one all the way to the American Opens in December! Many of us are nursing some major injuries that have occurred and others have been in and out of the hospital for health reasons or even surgeries! Its been dead at the gym since the Bad Mother…we are just all trying to either get healthy or maintain staying as healthy as we are right now!
On a bright note though, Ashley Perkovich has been away at the OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER for a 2 1/2 week training camp session and hopefully comes back stronger than ever….knowing her it is without doubt that she will!!!

Also 16 year old Daniel Wiitanen is preparing for the YOUTH WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIPS in SLOVAKIA…he leaves September 16th and competes on the 20th…that is all we know as of now…things are subject to change…but this is a huge feat for a 16 year old who rarely even gets to focus on any training at all to come out of nowhere and be the #2 ranked YOUTH LIFTER in the country!!! GOOD LUCK DANIEL!!!

Last Heavy Week before the BMO!

So this week has been rough on many of the Calpians and pretty awesome for others! I wont name names because you’ll just have to come out to the Bad Mother Open Championships next Saturday to see for yourself but some of us are set up to make some major breakthroughs and or long time PRs! The long training cycle has reached its end as of this Saturday so we are all going to go as hard as we can before tapering off for the week before the meet and lots of us have the mind and body that need that taper week very badly! Hopefully everyone else is training smart and going to be ready as well from all over, if you are traveling be safe and we look forward to seeing you on the 21st!

I Tried to crop out the “A Novel” part but I couldn’t…either way i like the pic cause its Calpian colors and what it says haha

Counted the entry blanks today at the gym and so far we have 22 entries…that isn’t including a single lifter from our own gym, half of the people on here that have said they are going, and the last minute decision makers or people just entering the day of! So we are def right on track for a big meet next Saturday! Hope everyone gets lots of rest next week and gets a super awesome last heavy training session in this Saturday!!! I estimate we will have 50+ amongst all the weight classes men and women!

Tri-Wizard Cup and an Awesome day at TSPC

Today was a wonderful rainy day in the home of the Calpians. There was a lot of fun to be had in the Tri-Wizard cup, which now apparently consists of five lifters (although I don’t know Dave and Chris’s exact lifts). Trique initially gave up with a 107.5 kg snatch, but stapped up and eventually got 114 and 140 (Which I’m not counting because he used straps before we clarified whether they were allowed or not ;D). Leonard lifted a solid 125 snatch and 132.5 clean and jerk although he had a ton more in him in the Clean and Jerk. Finally, I (Fletcher) got 125 in the snatch and 155 in the clean and jerk. All this means is we all need to step up our game, but it was a blast getting pumped up and competing against each other again. Oh, and Dave and Chris mopped the floor with us. Dave snatched 132.5 and clean and jerked 160ish? Chris snatched 127.5 I believe, and Clean and Jerked at least 140. Either way, they win overall. The goal of these aren’t to necessarily win on any given day, it is a close race, the goal is to stay geared up and push each other to what we can be and need to be in order to represent the Calpian name at Americans and then Nationals.

Check out the footage from out little duel:

Lots of PR’s this Week!!!

This Week at TSPC has been an awesome thus far! There have been several athletes making lots of PR’s! And we all know that any day you PR is a GREAT DAY!!!

First up was Andrew McCabe snatching a 4kg PR with 84kgs and making it look easy! So easy that I had him go for 87.5 which he was more than capable of and in the video you will see what I mean! I have no doubt that in out Bad Mother Championships he is going to hit 90kgs on his 3rd attempt! Here is a quick Video of his snatch day……….

Next up on the same day was Hannah Cunliffe (our resident badass track all-star) Hannah cleaned a PR 72.5kgs which was a 2.5kg PR! Way to go Hannah…now if WE could just get you to go hard and heavy everyday you’d prob out lift most the guys haha

Yesterday (Tuesday) there were 3 more great Pr’s as well!

Beau had 3 straight Clean PR’s with 92.5, 97.5 and then wanted that 100 so bad that I had to give him one shot at it and he nailed it like a Champ! His best clean till the date was only 90kgs (which I posted a video of on here not too long ago) and he just walks in yesterday and makes a HUGE 10kg clean PR! Now thats Badass!!! Way to go and Congrats BEAU!!!

Mason White (One of our youngest lifters at TSPC age 13) had a PR clean of 45 and then 47.5 back to back! Lets just say I was a proud coach 🙂 He attempted both of them half-assed the first time (testing the weight off the ground) but on the second attempt both times he nailed them with ease! Now to just get him from that clarking business and we will be in better business! (Even though I always do the same thing lol)

Video of Mason’s PRs will be among a collective video Andrew is going to out together for me at the end of the week after taking lots of vids and making a week long type training video of the diverse lifters and athletes we have at TSPC!

And finally Sarah Skinner finally hit that 90kg clean! Shes been wanting it and wanting it for a long time now! It was great to see her finally nail it with ease on her first attempt! She begged for 95 but took her progress and PR and move to the next lift! Now all she needs to figure out is that jerk with 90kgs and she will be ready to hit some big weights and what we are all hoping she will do is make her final Junior Worlds Team!!! So wish her continued success!

Sorry I wasn’t able to get any of the video for all these PRs but its been a busy week already!!!

As for everyone else…all the high school athletes have been training very well and making progress! Myself, Fletcher, Dave Rief, Chris Heinig, Ashley Perkovich, Melanie Roach, Jaime Pitre (Heinig to be), and Arron French have all been lifting pretty damn well from what I can tell! Some notes: Chris cleaned 130 and 135kg for doubles yesterday with a 170kg double back squat…the easiest and best hes looked in both lifts in a while so that is Great! Dave snatched 127.5 for a double with relative ease and did a double clean with 155 pretty easily as well and then topped it off with a 200kg double back squat which was the first time hes gone as heavy in a while now he said so all is looking good! I have been struggling with my snatch for a while now and think its finally coming together…I snatched 107.5 for a double and then made 110 and 112.5 for singles no problem but then attempted 114 and just shied away from it…Saturday I want 115-117 so we shall see haha…Fletcher hasn’t been doing anything but squats and pulls for a few weeks now and then came into the gym on Monday and snatched 120 and 125 very nicely before missing 130 a few times but hes strong enough to get 140 in the same position…meaning its all in his head! Melanie clean and jerked 75kgs yesterday (she said it felt tough but it looked fairly effortless to everyone else!)

Hope you enjoy the mid week update and look for more to come soon!

Dont forget to send in your Bad Mother Entry Blanks!!!

Good and Bad Sequence Shots!

One of TSPC’s lifters (Andrew McCabe) got a new camera so we played around with it all day yesterday in the gym and found the sequence option or whatever its called! Here are just a couple sequence pics of TSPC lifter Trique doing a couple snatches. One is of a missed snatch and one is of a made snatch! See if you can spot where the lift when awry! And if you can then leave a comment about it or just comment for the hell of it cause no one seems to be doing that on here! Quit being lazy folks and “SAY SOMETHING!” No really, if you are all that shy then ok I guess i understand! Anyway Hope you like the pics! Whats cool about these also is that we found a function on the camera that pics up only certain colors you want it to so we took them for that purpose as well and I for one love it!!! As for how our lifting is going at TSPC…everyone seems to be training great right now and make much progress in hopes for an awesome BAD MOTHER CHAMPIONSHIPS MEET! That is everyone, except Fletcher who has been out with an injured wrist and vagina from as far as this guy can tell bahaha!!! Don’t forget to get your BAD MOTHER CHAMPIONSHIPS ENTRY BLANK into us asap! We’ve already started receiving them so I big thanks to those not waiting till last second like the last meet!!! Here are the pics and Make it a Great DAY!!!

Melanie Roach back at it??? Appearance by Katie Thrush!

I don’t know folks…could it be possible? Does Melanie have what it takes to go for the 2016 Olympics after giving birth to her 5th (and hopefully final) child? Well here is just a glimpse at Melanie on her first day back in the gym doing a snatch! Id say she hasn’t lost an ounce of strength! What do you think? Everyone post on here and get this woman motivated to make another run for gold in her later 30’s!!! Yeah shes def a freak of nature (in a good way) haha Also making an appearance was John’s daughter Katie Thrush! Katie likes to make sporadic attempts at getting us all thinking shes gonna start working out again for Olympic lifting but then disappears so get on her too about keeping her butt in the gym and out of regular LA fitness and so forth gyms! Hehe Love ya sis 🙂 Melanie and Katie are gonna hate these vids I’m about to post but its all for fun so enjoy!!!
